About Mr. Riggs
My name is John Riggs and I am very excited to be your child's homeroom teacher this year! We will have a lot of fun learning, while working hard. My goal is to provide a safe learning environment, where students have choices and opportunities to reach their personal best.
I am a graduate of Fort Hays State University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, with a focus in Special Education. Prior to receiving my teaching certification, I was a paraeducator in the Lansing School District for 5 years, working alongside students and teachers at both the middle school and at LES. I am fortunate to have built strong connections in our district, and I am also fortunate to be able to live, work, and play in the Lansing community! Teaching is a second career for me. My previous professional endeavors include over a decade of work in a corporate setting, primarily in the area of real estate development and management. I pride myself on my ability to bring this experience into the classroom setting to foster important 21st century skills, including collaboration, self-management and self-advocacy, age appropriate research skills, peer leadership, and positive social interactions with others. This year, we will incorporate personal learning projects, "Ask Me" leaders, social and behavior lessons, and a handful of other practices that will encourage students to be creative, independent thinkers and doers. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Michelle, and my daughters, Natalie and Norah. We love to travel, play board games, serve in our church, and hang out with good friends. I like to read, and I am always learning new things! |
